Powder Monkey, Spirit Mountain, Duluth, MN

Cross-Country Mountain Bike Race

Sun. August 19, 2007 First race at 9:00am

Racers that make the trip up to Duluth for the Powder Monkey MTB Race will be treated to one wild ride. The racecourse will offer you a 4-8 mile loop with everything from lung searing climbs to white knuckled descents, along with the best singletrack in the state. This course will truly challenge every mountain biker that dares to take on the Monkey.

*Remember, all pre-registration entries should be postmarked at least 7 days before the event.


* If you have a valid NORBA license and present it at registration you will either receive $2.00 off your race entry fee (Citizen, Sport, and Comp Only) if you register on-site or receive a $2.00 refund when you check-in at registration if you are pre-registered.

Awards

Prizes will be provided for 1st - 3rd place in each age class for Kids Comp, Citizen, Sport, & Comp classes. Top finishing Experts will receive cash awards.

CAMPING

Nestled in a forest on the western high point of Duluth, Spirit Mountain Minnesota Campground offers walk-in tenting as well as 73 campsites equipped with fire pits, picnic tables and electricity. Thirty-nine sites have water hook-ups, and two shower buildings offer 24-hour convenience.


Spirit Mountain overlooks majestic Lake Superior and the St. Louis Bay. Natural beauty abounds in the area - you can quickly and easily access water, hiking and biking trails and much more.

The campground is located just minutes from Downtown Duluth, MN, Canal Park, Bayfront Park, the Lakewalk, shopping and attractions.


Just take Exit #249 off of Interstate 35 and follow the Frontage Road signs to our campground office.

Shimano Youth Series

The Youth Series is designed to give children an opportunity to compete like their parents in a positive and fun environment. Over the years, the Shimano Youth Series has expanded to include over 100 races per year, reaching over 5000 kids.
The Shimano Youth Series is free to children ages 12 & under. Kids receive a t-shirt, stickers, extra goodies, a numberplate, and a shiny new gold medal. Parent cyclists ride and race with the kids, providing motivational and physical support.

 

 

Pre-Riding - August 18

 The course will be open to pre-ride Saturday August 18th form 11:00am-3:00pm only.  All riders need to be off the course by 3:30.  Thank you all for your cooperation.

The pre ride course will be the same as last year.  Look for the registration shack as you approach the ski area.  Due to private events being held at Spirit Mountain Aug. 18th, please stay away from the Chalet area and parking lot.

Pre-riding is offered to registered racers ONLY due to insurance reasonsA waiver must be signed by all racers wishing to pre-ride the course.

 

Directions from the Twin Cities

I-35 N.
Take the BOUNDARY AVE exit- EXIT 249- toward SKYLINE PKWY.
Turn RIGHT onto S BOUNDARY AVE / CR-14. Continue to follow CR-14.
Turn LEFT onto MOUNTAIN DR / CR-625 / W SKYLINE PKWY. Continue to follow W SKYLINE PKWY.
End at Spirit Mountain:
